Unveiling Japan's Ruler of the Black Flame Set: A New Era for Pokémon Collectors

Exciting news awaits all Pokémon enthusiasts as Japan prepares to release its highly anticipated Ruler of the Black Flame set! Building on the speculation and rumours that have been circulating for months, this upcoming collection promises to captivate trainers with its innovative concept and extraordinary card designs. In this blog post, we'll delve into the details surrounding this remarkable set and explore the intriguing features it has in store for avid collectors and players alike.

Back in February, eagle-eyed fans discovered a trademark listing for the Ruler of the Black Flame set, sparking a whirlwind of speculation and excitement. The rumors were confirmed in March when it was revealed that the set would boast a Darkness-type Charizard ex, causing an uproar within the Pokémon community. The stage was set for an extraordinary release that would forever change the landscape of Pokémon TCG.

Mark your calendars for July 28th, as that's when Japan will witness the official launch of the Ruler of the Black Flame set. This eagerly anticipated collection will feature a whopping 108 cards (excluding secret rare), promising a diverse range of new and thrilling additions to enhance any deck.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the Ruler of the Black Flame set is the introduction of Tera Pokémon ex. These extraordinary cards showcase Pokémon of unconventional types, breathing new life into battles. Among the exceptional roster of Tera Pokémon ex, we have the enigmatic Darkness-type Charizard ex, the electrifying Lightning-type Tyranitar ex, and the blazing Fire-type Eiscue ex. It's important to note that these "type-shifted" Tera Pokémon ex maintain their usual energy requirements but possess different weaknesses that correspond to their shifted types. For example, Charizard ex, a Darkness-type card, will wield Fire attacks and be vulnerable to Grass-type Pokémon (symbolising the traditional weakness of Bug-type Pokémon in the TCG).

The anticipation for the Ruler of the Black Flame set extends far beyond Japan, as English-speaking collectors can rejoice knowing that they won't have to wait too long to join in on the excitement. In August, the English version, aptly named Obsidian Flames, will make its debut. In a rare occurrence, the English set was officially announced ahead of its Japanese counterpart, generating even more buzz around its impending release. Obsidian Flames will not only include the captivating Ruler of the Black Flame set but also incorporate the highly sought-after eight ex Starter Decks from July, the ex Special Sets from May, and a selection of approximately 30 cut cards from Paldea Evolved. Truly a treasure trove for avid collectors!

While we eagerly await the release of the English set, the Japanese version of Ruler of the Black Flame holds additional surprises. According to the English set description, we can expect the introduction of Tera Dragonite ex (Dragon-type), Tera Greedent ex (Colourless-type), Tera Vespiquen ex, and Revaroom ex. In keeping with the spirit of the video games, many Tera Pokémon will still retain one of their original types, adding a touch of familiarity to this bold new concept.

The impending arrival of Japan's Ruler of the Black Flame set has sent shock-waves through the Pokémon TCG community. With its unique Tera Pokémon ex and an array of captivating cards, this collection promises to ignite the flames of excitement in trainers worldwide. As we eagerly await the English release in the form of Obsidian Flames (which you can pre-order on our website here), the journey through this Pokémon extravaganza is only just beginning
